Flying High is responding to the six week summer holidays this year by providing the community with a range of 6 week Summer Courses in performing and theatre arts on Zoom from the comfort and safety of your own homes.
These courses are being offered in partnership with Gedling Borough Council and Inspire Youth Arts. They are open to all ages from 8 upwards and theoretically can be accessed by anyone who is able to use Zoom (even if you happen to be away for a few days) and has access to the internet. Quizzes are on Kahoot! and will need to be downloaded or played on a smart phone.
Course Length: 6 weeks x 1 hr or 90 mins on a specific day each week starting from Monday 20 July (see below). It is absolutely no problem if you miss a week, as we can easily work around it. We aim to have a sharing of online pieces on the afternoon of Friday 28 August through our Facebook page.
Numbers: We aim to have a minimum of 6 and a maximum of 10 on each course, although we may have some flexibility. If we have below 6, the course is unlikely to run so we will be in touch and either offer you another course or give you a refund.
Ages: The age range for each group is not definitive but a guide and some 13 year olds may feel they have a lot of experience in the particular course they are interested in so would prefer to be in the older group and vice versa with some 14 year olds. Please email firstname.lastname@example.org if you wish to talk this through. Adult courses are generally for 19 upwards but again, please email if you wish to clarify anything.
Cost: £30.00 per course. As a not-for-profit company and in partnership with Gedling Borough Council, we can offer some assisted places to support anyone who wishes to take a course. Please email Sarah.Cook@gedling.gov.uk.

Dance - Georgie Saunders
Join us and explore new ways to creatively make choreography and learn contemporary dance skills and techniques!
Songs from Musicals - Rachel Bird
Come and join me for some fun sessions, learning a mixture of musical theatre songs. From Disney to Matilda, Les Mis to Hairspray, you will have the opportunity to learn songs from different genres resulting in a performance in the final session. We will look at the differences between them and how to make the performance of each song individual.
Singer / Song Writing - Tash Bird
Do you have words in your head that you want to express? Do you sing random tunes to yourself? Join us in learning techniques to combine lyrics and melodies to write the next big hit!
Monologues - devised and scripted - Carrie Bird (and guests)
We will be looking at the ingredients of a good monologue - the writing and the potential for performance. You may want to write your own monologue or interpret one from a play. We will be working through the solo speech, breaking it down, uncovering the character, their motivations while exploring the vocal and physical techniques of acting. There may be guest tutors for this course.
Devising with puppets - Sophie Hatton
Ever wondered how to turn a bin bag into a dog, or a newspaper into a grumpy old man? Well now you can! Using simple, everyday materials to bring puppets to life, we'll be exploring everything from creating characters to giving them a voice, as well as exploring how puppetry can be used in storytelling.
Devising a play - Carrie Bird
A play about characters we care about, who come together in one moment in time. These plays will be devised in a naturalistic style and focus on people in communities that the participants can identify with. We will build their narrative together and structure their dialogues, feelings, emotions and relationships within the worlds they live. The aim is for sections to be filmed on Zoom and in real time.
Improvisation and Games - Carrie Bird
Join us as we have fun together with Zoom games and exercises to challenge us. We will invent characters, situations, dialogues, relationships and explore these through responses to improvised tasks.
'Drop In' quizzes and chat - Carrie Bird
It is good to have a space where you can just chat and play a fun quiz. You can learn too! We would like people just to connect and know they can just join when they feel they would like to with no pressure. This session is free.
Attention! New course for Adults on Tuesdays in August!
Songs from the Musicals / Acting through Song with Rachel Bird.

This is a fun course and open to any adult who would like to sing and learn how musical theatre songs are performed.
