Introducing Phoenix Theatre Company
Listed Under: News
We are delighted to introduce our newest group, Phoenix Theatre Company. led by Carrie Bird.
Rising out of the ashes of the former Nottingham Theatre Royal 55+ Drama group which Carrie led for four & a half years, Phoenix Theatre Company is now for adults of all ages but the focus of the workshops is mainly towards the more mature participants.
We have 18 wonderful members, aged 23-84, with both new and existing faces forming the company now.
We run two hour workshops at Nonsuch Studios, which take place on Fridays from 1.30 - 3.30 during term time.
Workshops cover the acting skills of voice, movement, characterisation and communications using improvisation, technical exercises and written texts.
In the past, we have explored plays which have been staged locally, so that the group can experiment with staging possibilities, understand character and context, and learn directing skills before actually visiting the theatre to see the professional production. This is an important aspect of the workshops.
In the past, the group has had the opportunity to perform for 'Live at Lunch' at the Theatre Royal and we will be looking for more performance opportunities in the future if it is something the group would like to take part in.
Just as importantly, the group has seen strong friendships formed both inside and outside of the workshops and the members are currently planning a trip to the West End together!
