Phoenix Theatre Company
Phoenix Theatre Company (an adult theatre company for the young at heart)
For four and a half years, the Nottingham Theatre Royal has provided the opportunity for people aged 55+ to have weekly Drama workshops under the leadership of Carrie Bird. These workshops can no longer be funded by the theatre so Flying High has taken over the management and development of this provision. Members of this group were very keen to continue and become a company of like minded people so the name 'Phoenix Theatre Company' is relevant as the group has risen from the ashes of the Nottingham Theatre Royal funding cuts.
The weekly workshops will take place at the Nonsuch Studios in Hockley on Fridays from 1.30 - 3.30 and is open to anyone who might consider themselves 'young at heart. There is no lower or upper age limit and a free taster workshop is available at the beginning of each half term for those who wish to try the workshop.
Workshops include drama games, theatre exercises, improvisation, exploring texts / plays, devising skills. investigative drama, forum theatre, acting and directing skills with visits from professionals in theatre and film as and when appropriate. There is an ethos which underpins all activities in order to create a 'safe' environment where confidence and well being are at the centre.
In the past, some of the group have taken part in small performances 'Live at Lunch' at the Theatre Royal and there will be opportunities to perform more if that is what the group would like to do. We have arranged theatre visits and some members get together to go on day trips. Many have become great friends through being part of the group.
We hope you will join us!
